What is anti-wrinkle therapy?

Anti-wrinkle therapy utilises a natural, purified protein that relaxes wrinkle-causing muscles, creating an improved and rejuvenated appearance. The active ingredient in the treatment is purified botulinum toxin type A. The treatment is a prescription-only medicine and as such is only available from your doctor.
How does anti-wrinkle treatment work?
Anti-wrinkle injections are used to relax specific facial muscles that cause expression lines and dynamic wrinkles in the upper face (crow’s feet, forehead and glabellar frown lines). The treatment works by relaxing the muscles that it is injected into. Once the muscles are relaxed, you cannot contract them or continue to make undesirable facial expressions. Over time, and with repeated treatments, the lines gradually smooth and new lines are prevented from forming.
After the injection, it takes up to five days for the treatment to begin taking effect and about fourteen days to see the full effect.
What areas can be treated?
Common areas of the face to receive anti-wrinkle injections include the glabellar frown lines between the brow (the vertical lines that appear between your eyebrows when you frown), the crow’s feet (the lines that radiate from the corner of your eyes when you smile or squint), the forehead lines (the horizontal lines that form when you raise your eyebrows), the area along the outer edge of the brow to give the brows a slight ‘lift’, and in the jowls to reduce the ‘folding’ effect around the mouth.
Our doctors can also use anti-wrinkle injections to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) with injections in the hands, feet or underarms.
How long do anti-wrinkle injections last?
Anti-wrinkle injections typically last 3 to 4 months. A maintenance plan is recommended to maintain the effect of your anti-wrinkle treatments.
Are there any side effects?
As with any treatment, side effects may occur. In the amounts used for the treatment of upper facial lines, the side effects are usually temporary and localised to the area of injection. Side effects that are possible with anti-wrinkle injections containing the botulinum toxin include headaches, tenderness, bruising or redness at the injection site, and less common but possible, local muscle weakness including drooping eyelids/eyebrows and skin tightness. Your cosmetic physician will review potential side effects at your consultation.
Will my wrinkles come back worse than before?
As the effect of anti-wrinkle injections wear off, there is no reason for wrinkles to look worse than before treatment. The treatment relaxes the facial muscles that cause expression lines. It does not cause more wrinkles to form. Over time, the muscles will return to the state they were prior to treatment, unless a maintenance plan is in effect.
My lines aren’t very deep, would you recommend anti-wrinkle injections?
At Hyperdermics, we would assess your face and areas of concern to determine if anti-wrinkle treatments and/or dermal fillers are appropriate for you. Either anti-wrinkle injectables or dermal fillers, or a combination of both can be used for areas of the face with wrinkles or volume loss.
Whether you are looking for facial injections in Melbourne or Shepparton, we can assist you with your facial rejuvenation needs and help you to look your best.
Who shouldn’t be injected?
Dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle treatments are not appropriate for women who are pregnant, considering getting pregnant or breast feeding.
